SMU president R. Gerald Turner said the school would appeal several sanctions the NCAA has decided to impose on them — but not its postseason ban nor Larry Brown’s partial suspension.

“Although we regret the severe impact on our student-athletes, the simple fact is that the NCAA penalty structure mandates at minimum a one-year post-season ban for the level of misconduct that occurred, in our case, when a former staff member completed an online high school course for a prospective student-athlete, committing academic misconduct,” Turner said in a university release.

The school will appeal scholarship losses for the men’s basketball team and the vacating of the program’s 2013-14 victories. It will also push back against a reduction of scholarships and a postseason ban against the golf program.
