So Many Reasons For People Promoting Relegation To Give It Up

This would not seem like such a big deal. There isn’t another U.S. professional sport that has a system of promotion and relegation, in which teams that finish at the bottom of the highest league’s standings are dropped to a minor league, whereas the teams that finish best in the minor league are promoted to play in the big time. It turns out, though, there is this curious sub-culture of American soccer fans who reject MLS not because the standard of play is less than the best in the world or the absence of a nearby team, but rather because the league declined to embrace the promotion/relegation concept when it was founded in 1996....

The photo, taken by Fred Conrad, shows a shelf in the bedroom of Emily D’Ambrosi, a New Jersey teen whose father, Jack, died at the World Trade Center. Competing for limited space amid the annual totems of passage and achievement–SECOND PLACE, WOODCLIFF LAKE RUN, 1997, WOODCLIFF LAKE SOCCER ASSOCIATION 2000 JUNIOR DIVISION,–is a brown box marked DAD, MAY 25, 1956/SEPTEMBER 11, 2001. Like the trophies, with their iconography of winged feet, soccer balls, bat-holding softball players, the urn is marked with its own icon: a fish on a line....

Small Details Suggest Final Fantasy 16 Reveal Is Coming Soon

As previously mentioned, mainline Final Fantasy games tend to take a long time to develop. However, this trend of long periods of development time does not appear to be the case with Final Fantasy 16. RELATED: Robert Pattinson Cried At Final Fantasy 7 Scene Back in late August, it was discovered that an official Twitter account for Final Fantasy 16 was created, which led many fans to believe that an announcement was inevitable....

Smaller Galaxy Note 20 Might Have A Plastic Back And Flat Screen

The specs come courtesy of WinFuture, who also said the phone’s 6.7in flat display will be a 1080p resolution 60Hz panel. All of Samsung’s S20 phones have 120Hz refresh rate displays, so it’d be an odd move for Samsung to make one of the Notes with the standard 60Hz. The Note 20 Ultra is expected to have a larger, curved edge display and 120Hz screen. The rumour that the smaller Note 20 has a plastic back is the oddest detail, and one we find hard to believe....

Smalley The Raison D Etre Du Jour

Here’s my NEWSWEEK colleague (the indomitable) Suzanne Smalley with a dispatch from the Clinton roadshow in Oregon. Despite speculation to contrary, Suzanne reports, the candidate is actually “escalating her rhetoric” against Obama. At a rally in Central Point, Ore., last night, Hillary Clinton didn’t leave any doubt that she’s still in it to win it. She challenged Barack Obama to a debate in Portland on Friday, where they’ll both be campaigning, saying she’ll meet “absolutely anytime, anywhere....

Ben Avery, the man behind Bayside Snake Catchers, a company that offers snake removal services in Queensland, Australia, was bitten on his left thumb by his eastern tiger snake as he was feeding it earlier this month. Within minutes, Avery started vomiting and began to fall in and out of consciousness. His kidneys subsequently shut down, and four blood transfusions were required to save his life. Avery, who has described his ordeal on Facebook, said he pulled the snake off his thumb “about half a second” after it bit him, and he was tended to immediately by his wife, while speaking to medics on the phone....

So That S Why Evolution Is In Trouble

So argue two experts in cognitive and developmental psychology, the science of how thinking and other mental functions change as people grow up. “Resistance to certain scientific ideas,” Paul Bloom and Deena Skolnick Weisberg of Yale University argue in the May 18 issue of the journal Science, is largely a result of patterns of thinking that are characteristic of young children but which, in some people, “persist into adulthood.”...
